What Do You Really, Really Want?
By Lauren Hasson
There are some things in life that make me come alive.... adventure, trying something new, hiking beautiful terrain, great conversations, and water. Not all water, to be precise. It must be warm, inviting, beautiful and clear. There is something about being in water that brings me to an indescribable place. Maybe it takes me back to my childhood, water skiing on a lake where I would swim under the surface for large stretches until I thought my lungs would burst. Or is it the weightlessness of releasing the busyness of life when all that is before you is an expanse of blue green ocean.
Recently I was able to receive this gift. Bob and I escaped civilization to a small island in French Polynesia called Moorea. It was surreal and the water underneath our bungalow did not disappoint. Being away for our 30thanniversary to rest, refresh, talk, laugh, adventure and spend time discovering a greater vision in each of us. For our anniversary, I brought two Vivid Vision books, colored markers and pigment pens, along with two 11” x 14” sketch pads for Bob and I to individually connect our hearts with His and see our own vivid visions emerge.
Wow! It was off the charts. We both were able to see new aspects of our destiny that had been waiting specifically for us. He began showing me different facets of His plan which all began to fit powerfully together. At one point, He reminded me to not listen with my mind, but to engage my heart and spirit with His. His voice kept coming back to me saying, “What do you want? Listen again with your heart, and tell me what you really, really want!”
Listening for what we really want is vulnerable. It’s easy to slip into what we could do, what we might do, what’s familiar. Then He breaks in pressing with an invitation to GO BIGGER!
So the question begs to be answered, “What do you really, really want?”
Remove the how. Remove the sensibilities of life, the obligations. Open up the scary big place where only He can make it happen. The place where you know it’s going to be crazy wild with Him to do half of what you begin to hear.
This is the place we are starting at this year. This is His invitation to each one of us. He is opening us up in deep trust and joy and love. He’s asking us to be surrounded by His wrap-around-love whispering into our spirits all that He has made possible for us. We are the plan in His heart, we satisfy Himas we receive all that He’s giving us as a spectacular gift.
Will you say “yes” with us? Will you bravely discover this place of unabashed intimacy with Him? Will you move even farther into the dreams and plans He has for you?
“Before we were even born, he gave us our destiny;[o] that we would fulfill the plan of God who always accomplishes every purpose and plan in his heart.” Ephesians 1:8We can’t wait to share in your destiny with each one of you!
